The Walker's Haute Route (aka 'the High Route') is a legendary high level trek, connecting Chamonix and Zermatt. Alpine Treks specialise in the Walker's Haute Route and offer a large choice of guided and self-guided Haute Route walking holidays in 2024.
Starting at the foot of Mont Blanc and finishing at the foot of the Matterhorn, this tour scales high mountain passes across the French and Swiss Alps. The Haute Route is a challenging trek and a highly prized objective for mountain walkers. Our holidays are tailored to walkers and avoid glaciers and sections where technical climbing skills are needed.

Experience! Alpine Treks has specialised in running Haute Route Walking holidays since 2007. Our itineraries are well-proven and our logistics are top-class, whether you choose one of our guided or self-guided itineraries.
Our Haute Route starts in Chamonix and finish in Zermatt! Chamonix and Zermatt are buzzing, historic mountain towns with a plethora of cafe’s, restaurants and shops and is worth a visit in their own right. It would be a shame not to spend time in these wonderful places and soak up the atmosphere before and after your trek.
Bag transfers are included! We have included bag transfers to our overnight destinations wherever possible on our guided trips (optional on self-guided trips), which means that you can hike with a light pack and focus on enjoying the trip.
Our Haute Route is flexible! Book our basic trip and then upgrade with optional extras to design your perfect trip - private rooms, luxury hotels, etc.
Our Guides are second to none! It’s a big claim, but one that our many happy customers are happy to confirm. Our guides are certified, full-time professionals with extensive experience on the Haute Route. They happen to be extremely friendly, patient and helpful too!
Small, personal groups! We never have more than 8 people in our groups per guide. This makes it a more personal experience where we can look after individual’s needs.
Great value! We’re a small company with minimal overheads, so the money you spend on a trip goes towards providing an excellent service.
No hidden cost! We are completely open about what is included in your trip. No surprises with us!
Chose your preferred dates! In addition to our scheduled trips, we can arrange a private departure for you at any time that suits you.
What our customers say:
"Flawless planning and organisation by Alpine Treks: we stayed in 12 different hotels/dortoirs/huts on this tough 14 day walking holiday with no problems. Our small group of 5 was led by guide Robert Farwell who is competent, knowledgeable, and good company. Thanks to Alpine Treks for a memorable experience."
Mark Bentinck
"My wife and I recently enjoyed a very memorable hike of the Swiss Alps guided by Alpine Treks. We experiences a challenging, yet relaxing hike, with top notch accommodations, food and a knowledgeable and friendly guide (Thank you Robert). We were paired with other hikers with similar skills and backgrounds. The group chemistry was way more than we hoped for and we believe most of it was due to great planning and organization by Alpine Treks. It is a tribute to the guide (and Apline Treks) when you can totally enjoy the views, company and accommodations without a single worry. Great Job - we highly recommend using their service."
Mr & Mrs Betcher
"I signed up with Alpine Treks for the Haute Route (Chamonix to Zermatt) trek with a friend and we really lucked out. We had a compatible group of five with a very knowledgeable, competent, French and German speaking guide (Robert Farwell). He was especially helpful to me when the soles came off my boots after two days (in spite of pre trek repairs) and I had to buy some new ones in Champex. We had a week of glorious weather and only 2 rainy days in 12. The views were spectacular. There were no logistical problems at any of the hotels or mountain huts. It's a strenuous and occasionally challenging hike and fortunately everyone was up to it, as it would make a big difference to the experience if there were different levels of hiking ability in the group. Definitely recommended."
